About Wings Sail And Snorkel

Wings Sail And Snorkel is a 6-hour sailing tour operated by Wings Sailing Charters, departing from Coral Sea Marina in Airlie Beach. The half-day tour visits Langford Island and Hook Island, with snorkelling stops at pristine locations like Stonehaven Bay and Cockatoo Point in the Whitsunday Islands Marine Park.

This is a proper sailing experience on SV Wings III, a custom-built 60-foot catamaran with air conditioning, a foredeck jacuzzi, and three spacious levels. The boat maxes out at 29 passengers, so you get a much more intimate experience than those packed tour boats. Wings has been operating in the Whitsundays for 23 years and holds a private mooring at Langford Island - a stunning uninhabited sand cay that most other tours can't access.

Perfect for anyone who wants a relaxed day on the water without feeling rushed or crowded. The crew have over 30 years of sailing experience and really know the best spots based on the day's conditions. It's also one of the only BYO day tours in the Whitsundays, so you can bring your own drinks and save a fortune. The tour doesn't visit Whitehaven Beach - instead, you explore the less-crowded northern islands where the snorkelling is brilliant.

"Best day in the Whitsundays, and excellent value! The snorkelling at Cockatoo Point, Hook Island and the clear-bottomed kayaking at Langford Island were amazing! So many beautiful fish and coral! Mike, Mon and Matti were absolutely brilliant hosts. The morning tea and lunch were delicious too!"

TripAdvisor

"Great outing and amazing snorkelling. The crew were friendly and informative and both the morning tea and lunch were delicious. Unlike many of the tours we've done like this, the winds were great and we actually got a couple of good sails in. After the snorkelling we hit a beach and had access to glass bottom kayaks and paddle boards."

TripAdvisor

"Perfect, relaxing way to spend a day on a boat at the reef. It felt like swimming in an aquarium. The best part about this boat is that it wasn't overly packed. We saw the other catamarans going out and they were just packed in like sardines. The crew was very nice and so was the captain."

Good to know: This is a BYO tour, which means drinks aren't provided - you need to bring your own alcohol and soft drinks (cold refrigeration provided on board). Also, lunch is good but fairly simple wraps, so some guests recommend bringing extra snacks if you have a big appetite.

The Experience

Wings Sail And Snorkel is perfect if you want a proper sailing experience on a spacious catamaran without the crowds. The 60-foot SV Wings III is seriously impressive - three levels to spread out on, full air conditioning, a foredeck jacuzzi, and it actually sails (unlike some catamarans that just motor everywhere). With only 29 passengers max, you're not fighting for space like on those big tour boats.

Your Itinerary

Check-in (9:00am): Meet at Coral Sea Marina North Village, Meeting Point B (look for the white umbrellas near the roundabout). The crew will get you fitted with wetsuits if it's stinger season (October to May) and give you a safety briefing.

Departure (9:30am): Cast off and start sailing through the Whitsunday Islands. The crew hoists the sails when conditions are right - this is a genuine sailing experience, not just a motor cruise. Settle in on the sundeck, grab a spot in the jacuzzi, or relax in the air-conditioned lounge.

Morning Tea: The crew serves up sweet and savoury grazing platters - perfect with a cold drink from your BYO esky. Filtered water is always available if you need to refill your bottle.

First Snorkel Stop: The captain chooses the best location based on the day's conditions - could be Stonehaven Bay, Cockatoo Point, or another pristine spot around Hook Island. The crew gives a full snorkel briefing and helps anyone who needs it. You'll spend 45-60 minutes exploring coral gardens, tropical fish, and with luck, green sea turtles. Grab a clear bottom kayak or SUP board if you prefer to stay dry.

Langford Island: Sail to Langford Island, a stunning uninhabited sand cay wedged between Hook Island and Hayman Island. Wings has a private mooring here, so you get exclusive access while other boats cruise past. The surrounding waters are brilliant for snorkelling, paddleboarding, and kayaking. The sand spit is perfect for walking and the views are absolutely stunning.

Lunch: Tropical buffet-style lunch served on board - build your own wraps with cold meats, salmon, and fresh salads. Everything's freshly prepared that morning using local Whitsunday produce. Grab your BYO drinks from the fridge and enjoy lunch on the spacious back deck.

Final Snorkel/Activity Time: One more chance to get in the water, try the SUP boards, or paddle the clear bottom kayaks. Some people just chill in the jacuzzi at this point - totally your choice how active you want to be.

Sail Home (4:00pm arrival): Relax on the sail back to Coral Sea Marina. The afternoon light on the islands is beautiful, and you can usually spot other vessels and maybe dolphins if you're lucky. The vibe is super chilled by this point - everyone's had a great day and the crew often plays music for the cruise home.

Before You Book

Important Information

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund. Wings Sail And Snorkel runs in most weather conditions, but the captain may adjust the itinerary based on wind and sea conditions to ensure passenger comfort. The exact snorkel locations vary daily depending on weather and tides - the crew always picks the best spots.

What to Bring

Swimwear (wear it under your clothes), towel, sunscreen (reef-safe preferred), hat, sunglasses, and your BYO drinks (alcohol and soft drinks - the boat doesn't sell any). Bring an esky or cooler bag with ice for your drinks. Filtered water is provided so bring a refillable bottle. A waterproof camera or GoPro is recommended. Storage space is limited, so pack light.

Who Can Come

Children aged 5 and above are welcome on Wings Sail And Snorkel. Non-swimmers can absolutely join - life jackets are provided and the crew gives personalised attention to nervous snorkellers. You can also skip snorkelling altogether and just enjoy the sailing, kayaking, or relaxing on board. Due to Workplace Health and Safety regulations, non-swimmers cannot participate in snorkelling activities, but can use SUP boards and kayaks with supervision.
