About Broomstick Whitsundays

Broomstick Whitsundays is an overnight sailing tour operated by Prosail Whitsundays, departing from Coral Sea Marina in Airlie Beach. The 2 day 2 night liveaboard tour visits Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet Lookout on Whitsunday Island, with snorkelling stops at multiple sites including Blue Pearl Bay, Butterfly Bay, and Manta Ray Bay in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

Broomstick is one of the true big boy racing maxis - a 76-foot weapon of a boat that was built to compete in deep blue yachting regattas all over the world. Now based in Airlie Beach, this sleek ex-racing yacht offers an authentic high-performance sailing experience that's hard to match. When the wind picks up, Broomstick effortlessly glides through the water at impressive speeds, and you'll experience the thrill of real adventure sailing as the crew hoists the massive sails and matches races with other Prosail yachts.

Perfect for adventurous travellers aged 18-45 (or young at heart), Broomstick's trips have a social, backpacker-friendly vibe with a maximum of 25 guests on board - slightly smaller than other Prosail vessels, creating an even more intimate atmosphere. Accommodation is dormitory-style with 15 single beds and 5 double bunks below deck - no private rooms, but clean and comfortable with fans, USB charging stations, hammocks, and hot showers. BYO alcohol (no glass or red wine) adds to the social experience, with nights spent relaxing under the stars, making lifelong friends, and soaking up the magic of the Whitsundays. The perfect mix of thrill, chill, and cheeky good times.

"I'm lucky enough to have travelled a lot but this trip just absolutely tops it all. From start to finish it was just laughter, views and so much fun. We were looked after by Dom, Dom and Jess and wow, what a trio! So knowledgeable and ridiculously engaging, incredible deck hands, chefs, captains, comedians and just everything in between. The food was also absolutely incredible, how they managed to pull that off in such a tiny kitchen I'll never know but the silence once everyone had their food was a testament to how enjoyable it was. Truly one of the best weekends of my whole life!"

TripAdvisor Review

"I had the most amazing time sailing, snorkelling and walking the Whitsundays - something that's been on the bucket list for 10 years, and it did not disappoint! Got super lucky with the weather, but even luckier with the crew - shout out to Captain Tom, Codey and Aoife (who's also a 10/10 chef), they absolutely made the experience what it was. Thanks again guys!"

TripAdvisor Review

"This trip was really incredible. The places they brought us were 10 out of 10, we have seen turtles and we watched the sunset from unrealistic beautiful spots. The food was really delicious and the crew was funny and really prepared. Ben the skipper was amazing and on the way back he sailed with 30 knots wind and brought us back on land like it was easy. Highly recommend!"

TripAdvisor Review

Good to know: This is an adventure sailing tour with shared dormitory accommodation - perfect for social travellers but not ideal if you need privacy. The boat can rock at anchor which may affect light sleepers. If you're prone to seasickness, take medication before departure. You'll need to be reasonably fit and mobile to climb in and out of the boat and walk to lookouts.

The Experience

Broomstick Whitsundays offers an authentic liveaboard sailing adventure through the Whitsunday Islands. Unlike day trips that rush you through the highlights, this 2 day 2 night tour gives you time to properly explore Whitehaven Beach, snorkel multiple reef sites, and experience genuine sailing on a legendary racing yacht. There's no set itinerary - each trip is planned around weather conditions, tides, and group preferences, ensuring you visit the best spots at the best times.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Afternoon: Meet your crew and fellow adventurers at Coral Sea Marina for a 2pm departure. After a safety briefing, you'll set sail towards the Whitsundays. Watch the crew hoist the massive sails and feel Broomstick come alive as she catches the wind and effortlessly glides through the water. Arrive at one of the crew's favourite beach locations for a swim and to watch the sunset while grazing on delicious snacks. Afterwards, head to your overnight anchorage where dinner and dessert are served. Spend the evening getting to know your new mates, having a few drinks under the stars, and letting the calm water gently rock you to sleep.

Day 2 - Full Day: Wake up to a yummy breakfast as you cruise to Tongue Bay on Whitsunday Island. Take a scenic 15-minute bush walk to Hill Inlet Lookout for breathtaking views of Whitehaven Beach and the famous swirling sands of the inlet - this is photo opportunity heaven. Head down to spend up to 3 hours relaxing on the pure white silica sand. Lunch is served back on board before you sail to your snorkelling destinations. Visit up to 3 different snorkel sites at fringing reefs around Hook Island or Border Island - possibly Blue Pearl Bay, Butterfly Bay, or Manta Ray Bay. The crew provides full snorkel briefings and flotation devices for nervous swimmers. After snorkelling, head to another beach location for sunset snacks before sailing to your second overnight anchorage.

Day 3 - Morning: Enjoy one last snorkel or island walk before the sails go up for the final run back to Coral Sea Marina. Arrive back in Airlie Beach around 11am, giving you plenty of time for your next adventure. After the tour, catch up with your new mates at the optional after-party in Airlie Beach with drink deals and more Whitsundays stories - a great way to cap off an unforgettable experience.
