About Airlie Beach Markets
The Lions Airlie Beach Community Markets are a beloved weekly tradition showcasing the vibrant heart and soul of the Whitsundays community. Held every Saturday morning from 7am to 1pm on the stunning foreshore, these lively markets offer visitors and locals alike the chance to explore an eclectic collection of stalls selling fresh local produce, handmade crafts, unique souvenirs, clothing, art, jewellery, and delicious foodβall set against the backdrop of swaying palm trees and the sparkling Coral Sea.
Run by the Whitsunday Lions Club, the markets have become a must-do Saturday morning activity for families, couples, and solo travellers seeking to experience the friendly, spirited atmosphere of Airlie Beach. With stalls set up on the sand under coconut trees along the foreshore walkway, live music from local bands, activities for children including camel rides along the beach, and an ever-changing array of vendors (some who have been there for over 20 years), the markets provide an authentic taste of local life. Visitor Tips
- Arrive early: Markets open at 7am. Arriving early means cooler temperatures, smaller crowds, easier parking, and first pick of fresh produce and popular items.
- Parking: Free parking available if you arrive early enough. Otherwise, paid parking at Whitsunday Sailing Club car park or Airlie Beach Foreshore car park on Coconut Grove. Town gets busy on Saturday mornings.
- Bring cash: Whilst many stalls accept card payments, some vendors may be cash-only. Having cash ensures you can buy from all stalls.
- Reusable bags: Bring your own shopping bags for purchases and to reduce plastic waste.
- Sun protection: Limited shade at the markets. Wear sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses. Morning sun can still be intense.
- Grab coffee first: Start with a coffee from one of the market stalls, then leisurely browse whilst sipping your brew.
- Try the mango sorbet: The famous Bowen mango sorbet (100% pure mango) is a must-try local favourite for cooling down whilst strolling.
- Plan 1-2 hours: Allow sufficient time to explore all stalls, enjoy the atmosphere, listen to music, and perhaps grab breakfast.
- Combine activities: Markets are near the lagoon, main street, and beachfront. Easy to combine with other Saturday morning activities.
- Cruise ship days: Markets also open when cruise ships visit. Check cruise ship schedule if visiting midweek.
