About Heart Hotel and Gallery Whitsundays
Opened in November 2016, Heart Hotel and Gallery is something a bit different for Airlie Beach. This is proper boutique accommodation - just 40 cleverly designed rooms in a stunning building that looks like a modern take on a tropical Queenslander. The architect (Hunt Design) has done an amazing job with the high pitched roofs, spacious verandahs, and timber cladding.
The location is absolutely perfect - literally in the heart of Airlie Beach, steps away from Airlie Beach Lagoon, and surrounded by restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops. You're right on Shute Harbour Road, the main street, so everything is within walking distance.
What makes this place special is the attention to design and the little luxuries. The lobby has Italian marble, floor-to-ceiling windows flooding everything with natural light, and palm trees. Up on the top floor, there's an actual art gallery featuring local Whitsunday artists, with monthly exhibitions. It's also a great quiet space for guests to just relax.
What Guests Are Saying
"The location is superb and the finishings make you feel like you're in a luxury location, and not in the centre of the party atmosphere of Airlie Beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very clean modern hotel, location to central Airlie eating areas and shops excellent. The room is quite small, but it is comfortable and clean."

"The staff were first class and extremely helpful. While the rooms are small they are very modern, clean and have everything required. Nice balcony off the rooms overlooking either the Main Street or the ocean view. In the middle of everything, but soundproof. Easy to check in, modern, comfortable, convenient."
TripAdvisor
"I used the hotel as a base for overnight sailing trips in Whitsundays and it is the perfect location for this being walking distance to both marinas. Very clean and good value and in a great location to be right on the main street of Airlie. The location was perfect, central to lagoon, downtown core and strolls along beach."
Google Reviews
Good to know: The rooms are compact and efficiently designed - think stylish but small. This is by design, as the philosophy is that rooms are for sleeping, and you'll spend most of your time out exploring anyway. Also, you're on the main street with bars across the road, but guests consistently say the soundproofing is excellent. Storage space is limited, so pack light!

The Location
You really couldn't ask for a better location. The hotel sits right on Shute Harbour Road, which is the main street running through Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach Lagoon is literally 50 meters away - you can see it from the hotel. You're surrounded by restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops, all within easy walking distance.
What's Nearby
Airlie Beach Lagoon: 50 meters away - less than a minute's walk. This free, saltwater lagoon is perfect for swimming, with lifeguards on duty. The foreshore area has BBQ facilities, picnic tables, and hosts the weekend markets.
Restaurants and Cafes: You're spoilt for choice. Everything from casual cafes to fine dining is within a 5-minute walk. The Deck Restaurant is right in the hotel if you don't feel like going out.
Coral Sea Marina: About 1.2km away - a pleasant 12-15 minute walk along the waterfront. This is where you'll catch most of your reef and island tours.
Port of Airlie: 1.3km walk - another marina hub with more restaurants, bars, and tour departure points. The Bicentennial Walkway connects everything along the waterfront.
Main Street Action: You're on the main street, so yes, there are bars across the road and it can get lively at night. But the hotel has excellent soundproofing - guests consistently mention they can't hear the noise from Magnums Bar even on Friday nights.
The Hotel Design
The architecture is genuinely striking - it looks like a modern interpretation of an old Queenslander, with high pitched roofs, timber cladding, and wide verandahs. Inside, it's all about clean lines and clever design. The lobby is gorgeous with Italian marble and floor-to-ceiling windows.
The rooms are deliberately compact but beautifully designed with everything you need and nothing you don't. Smart TV, BOSE sound system, Nespresso coffee maker, premium Appelles Apothecary bathroom products, and that cloud bedding everyone raves about. Each room has a private balcony with views of either the main street or the ocean.

Why Trust This Guide?
We're Airlie Beach locals who've called the Whitsundays home since 2001. Over more than two decades living and working in this stunning corner of tropical North Queensland, we've personally experienced the accommodation options, walked every street, and know which properties genuinely deliver on their promises.
Heart Hotel and Gallery Whitsundays opened in 2016 and quickly established itself as a stylish, design-focused option for travelers who appreciate good architecture and a central location. The boutique style isn't for everyone - rooms are compact - but for the right traveler, the combination of location, design, and those little luxuries like BOSE sound systems and cloud bedding make it a winner.
The recommendations are honest, unbiased, and based on genuine local knowledge to help make your Whitsunday holiday unforgettable.
